The creator of a disposable single-use shampoo basin neck pillow needed a way to advertise the product to salons. The solution was a brochure explaining the benefits of the product and ordering information. Some of the brochures were sealed closed and, with an address and a stamp, are ready to be mailed.

Catalog customer Cintas needed to visually represent their different marketing elements for a presentation. I scream...you scream

I was pleased to be able to develop a logo for a soft-serve ice cream shop opining in Troy, OH this spring. The client was hoping to represent the small town nature of Troy and wanted the logo to convey Americana and the family-friendly atmosphere they hope to achieve in the shop. It's great when work can intersect one of my interests, ice cream.

keeping it legal

I recently completed a very quick turn-around project for a local law firm. They needed an 8-page booklet overview of their services and a separate tri-fold flyer detailing what they offered to nonprofit organizations. First contact was made on a Monday, design began Tuesday, files were at the printer Friday, and the client used the 2 printed pieces in a presentation the following Friday. Whew...that's quick. I'm glad I was able to provide them with two professional products.

high school sports t-shirts

The coach of a high school cross country team was unsatisfied with the free designs he was getting from the t-shirt company (sometimes you get what you pay for). He asked me to come up with a design for their 2009 cross country shirt and a related design for their invitational (a single-day race sponsored by the school). After consulting with some brutally honest critics (high school girls), this is what we decided.

protect your files

Have you ever had a program quit and realized you had not saved your file yet, had the power go out or your computer crash and lost hours of work? It only takes that happening once or twice for me to become vigilant about saving. On a grander scale, have you ever had a hard drive or back-up drive fail, a laptop stolen? I've heard too many stories of these things happening and friends losing years of work files or personal photos.

For many years now I've had a pretty inexpensive system of file back-up in place. All of my files live on my computer's hard drive (copy #1). Any project in process is backed up onto an external drive every day when I'm finished working (copy #2). Once projects are completed they are set aside to be archived. When work is slow, like now, I burn files ready for archive onto CDs or DVDs. I make one set that is kept here in my office (copy #3) and another that is sent to live on a shelf at my husband's office at work (copy #4). Should the worst case ever happen and my house burns down, I would have a copy of all my files safe and sound.

A little van Gogh livens up the cover and a burn date helps me find files later. Inside is a listing of the contents of the disk to further help in finding that certain file years later.

flower illustrations

I have enjoyed working on some illustrations lately of my new favorite subject matter, flowers from my garden. The daffodils are actually from a neighbor's yard but I hope to remedy that for next spring.
